How to Set a Round Kitchen Table

Dinner in front of the television or sitting at the computer might have its appeal but if you want to get the full dining experience (meaning one that has conversation, loved ones, delicious tasting food, and table manners) you need to sit around a table that has been set properly with your best plates and silverware. The trouble is, because so many of us have opted to eat on the couch or in the office chair, a formal dining room table is a rarity. Most people will just have one round kitchen table dividing their living room area and their cooking space.

To escape the grasp of the boob tube you are going to have to sharpen those dinner table skills you learned in Home Eck and learn to set your kitchen table properly. There are many different sizes of round kitchen table sets available. So whether you have a 36 round kitchen table, 42 round kitchen table or a 60 round kitchen table each can be set in the same fashion. The plates, glasses, and silverware can be pretty much laid out the same way you learned back in school no matter what size table you’re using. You just may need a little refresher course to make it look good. A proper table setting will turn even a worn down shabby looking round black kitchen table into a beautiful place to eat your favorite meal.

Here’s what you need to do to properly prepare round kitchen table sets for romantic dinners for two. If you don’t have all of the suggested utensils simply omit them.

First thing’s first: put the dinner plate down in front of the seat. Moving out to the right you will place: a knife, a small spoon, and the soup spoon. To the left of the dinner plate you must place the dessert fork, the dinner fork, and then the salad fork. If you are serving salad or soup place the bowl on top of the dinner plate. This will complete the bottom row of your setting.

You can place a napkin on either side of the plate (underneath the silverware) or fold it and place it above or on top of the dinner plate.

Setting a TableOnce you have the bottom row in place you can set out the rest of the hardware. To the left of the dinner plate line up a bread plate with a butter knife set on top of it. To the right of the dinner plate set out a coffee cup, a water glass, a wine glass, and a liqueur glass.

Once the table is set you are ready to start serving the meal. If you are eating dinner for two make sure to set the plates across from each other on the round kitchen table and put some candles in between them. Bon appetite!
